TERENGGANU, June 20 – The French Embassy in Malaysia successfully hosted its “Plastic Odyssey” event at SMK Rantau Petronas on 5 and 6 June 2024, as part of the Festival de la Francophonie. This global initiative celebrates the Francophonie’s efforts to promote transformative actions leading up to the Francophonie Summit in Villers-Cotterêts. The event engaged seven public schools from Terengganu, including SMS Setiu and SMK Sultan Omar, in activities like a beach clean-up, interactive workshops, and a conference by a University of Malaysia Terengganu researcher.
Plastic Odyssey is a regional initiative running from May to September 2024 across several Asian cities. It aims to educate young French-speaking learners about sustainable development and ocean protection, with a particular focus on reducing plastic pollution. The event also provided an opportunity for students to enhance their French language skills and cultural understanding. Collaborating with French embassies and consulates across Asia, Plastic Odyssey seeks to instill a sense of environmental responsibility and linguistic proficiency among students beyond these locations.
