KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged all parties to refrain from politicising citizenship briefing programmes hosted by state assembly service centres. Saifuddin highlighted that citizenship issues, such as applications involving illegitimate children, adopted children, children born overseas, or children of parents married abroad, are longstanding and non-political matters.
Responding to reactions on social media about a citizenship briefing organised by the Stulang State Assembly Service Centre, Saifuddin stressed the importance of allowing elected representatives to address citizenship concerns without unnecessary political interference. He noted that similar issues are prevalent across various regions, including Kelantan, where cross-border marriages frequently result in citizenship complications. The Home Minister urged for a positive view on such initiatives, emphasizing their role in resolving citizenship issues for affected individuals.
