BAGAN SERAI, June 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has agreed in principle to allocate RM4 billion for a raw water distribution project from Sungai Perak to the Bukit Merah Dam. This project aims to provide a treated water supply to northern Perak and Penang and support the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) in Kerian.

Anwar emphasized that efficient water management in Perak will not only meet but exceed local needs, benefiting KIGIP, irrigation in Kerian, and extending to Seberang Perai. Although the funding will not be available this year, the government will prioritize the project. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, and Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz were also present at the KIGIP Master Plan launch.
