KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today a nationwide reduction in the prices of Grade A, B, and C chicken eggs by 3 sen each, effective immediately. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on Malaysians by making essential food items more affordable. Consumers can now expect to pay 42 sen per egg for Grade A, 40 sen for Grade B, and 38 sen for Grade C, with adjustments in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan based on local zones and districts.
The reduction is part of the government’s broader efforts to address cost of living concerns and ensure affordability. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, highlighted that the subsidy for this price reduction will cost RM100 million, contributing to a total allocation of RM927 million for egg subsidies in 2023. The government’s decision aligns with its commitment to redirect savings from targeted subsidies to sectors like education, healthcare, and public transportation, while also combating diesel smuggling and maintaining market balance.
