KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 – Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has announced that the Aerotrain Replacement Project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is set to conclude ahead of schedule, with completion expected by January 31, 2025. This accelerated timeline, finalized under a contract signed on June 14, 2024, between Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang) and a joint venture comprising IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd (IJMC-Pestech JV), advances the original deadline by two months.
The project, aimed at enhancing airport efficiency, involves the delivery of three new trains and the upgrade of two lines, overseen by Alstom Transport Systems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as the project coordination lead. According to MAHB, the new aerotrains are expected to arrive from China by the end of the third quarter of 2024, followed by commissioning and rigorous testing before operational commencement.
Mohamed Rastam Shahrom, MAHB’s acting group chief executive officer, highlighted that the early completion demonstrates their commitment to improving passenger experience and reinforcing KLIA’s status as a premier transport hub in the region. This achievement underscores effective collaboration and innovative strategies employed by MAHB and its partners despite earlier project setbacks.
