GEORGE TOWN, June 21 — Penang Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong has alleged that the Penang government may have squandered up to RM10 million in public funds to promote its achievements. He criticized the state for spending millions on boosting its image, which he argued does not benefit the public or improve their quality of life.
Oh specifically targeted the fortnightly publication Buletin Mutiara, claiming it is rarely read by Penang residents and often ends up in rubbish bins. He highlighted a response by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in the state legislative assembly, revealing that RM5.6451 million was spent on printing promotional materials. Oh suggested the total expenditure could now exceed RM10 million, urging the state government to utilize public funds for more meaningful projects such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure improvements.
