GEORGE TOWN, June 21 — The Penang government is set to discuss a range of proposed projects in a meeting with Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan today. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed optimism that the ministry will support incentives for companies to invest in an Integrated Circuit (IC) design park in the state.

In addition to the IC design park, Penang will propose the federal government return 20 per cent of taxes previously collected from the state. Chow highlighted other key projects to be discussed, including the Juru to Sungai Dua highway project and the Perak-Penang water project. He noted that Penang contributes between RM7 billion and RM8 billion in taxes annually, and reclaiming 20 per cent, or approximately RM1.6 billion, would significantly enhance the state’s financial resources for development.
