KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) has reaffirmed that BlackRock Inc. is not involved in the transaction related to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) privatisation through the Gateway Development Alliance (GDA). Phil Iley, Head of Transport at GIP and a director of GDA, clarified that despite BlackRock’s impending acquisition of GIP, currently expected in the third quarter of 2024, it has no influence over GIP’s dealings with MAHB.
Iley emphasized that GIP retains full control over its strategic operations and investments post-acquisition, leveraging its extensive experience in managing infrastructure assets globally. The consortium led by Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has announced a pre-conditional voluntary offer to acquire all outstanding shares in MAHB, valuing the transaction at RM18.4 billion.
GIP remains optimistic about MAHB’s potential under the GDA, focusing on enhancing passenger experiences, improving airline connectivity, and upgrading airport infrastructure to benefit Malaysia’s economy and citizens alike.
