KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 – The Auditor-General’s 2024 Report has disclosed that seven fixed broadband infrastructure projects were successfully implemented from the 9th to the 12th Malaysia Plan, under the National Broadband Initiative and the Jendela plan. Six projects were completed between the 9MP to 11MP phases, with the seventh project still in progress under the 12MP Jendela plan.
Phase 1 of the broadband initiative, focusing on increasing coverage to 95% of populated areas, included High-Speed Broadband (HSBB) and Sub Urban Broadband (SUBB) projects. The Jendela plan under 12MP aims to provide fibre optic networks to 7.5 million premises. As of December 2022, six out of seven projects were completed on schedule, while ongoing Phase 2 projects face delays due to approval processes and permit issues, affecting the timely expansion of broadband coverage, especially in rural areas.
