KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) will no longer approve allocations from the Sports Matching Grant (GPS) or the Community Sports Fund (DSK) for events involving tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and alcohol companies, according to amendments made under the Safe Sport Code. Minister Hannah Yeoh stated that any event found to have such involvement post-approval would be canceled, emphasizing the harmful impact of these products.

Speaking at the launch of an anti-smoking campaign, Yeoh highlighted the ministry’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, including intensifying the Rakan Muda programme to keep youths free from social issues. Last year, the initiative drew over 5.6 million participants through 7,260 activities. The ministry’s stance follows a proactive approach after reports of a sporting event sponsored by a vape company went viral on social media.
