GEORGE TOWN, July 15 – In a significant step towards sustainability, the Penang State Government, spearheaded by EXCO for Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs, YB Lim Siew Khim, has launched a Recycling Station at the Penang Homeless Transit Centre. This initiative, supported by Penang Green Council, Council Members Benji Ang and Alan, and Techom Metal, with management by Riiicycle, aims to reduce waste sent to landfills, extending landfill lifespan and promoting a circular economy.
The Recycling Station will serve as an educational hub for residents, emphasizing the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) and the long-term benefits of waste separation and environmental sustainability. Initially, the station will operate internally, ensuring residents understand waste separation practices, especially recycling. Eventually, it will open to the public for weekly collection days, with an incentive system to encourage participation. This initiative aligns with Penang’s enhanced waste separation policy, focusing on education and proactive measures to foster recycling and environmental protection.
