KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has rejected Lim Guan Eng’s request to withdraw the corruption charges related to the Penang undersea tunnel project. Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court of the decision, noting that the representation was dismissed shortly after its receipt on June 28, as reported by Malaysiakini.

Judge Azura Alwi has scheduled the continuation of the trial for August 8. The charges involve allegations that Lim, during his tenure as Penang Chief Minister, received RM3.3 million in bribes to favor a company for the construction project, among other related accusations. The decision follows conflicting testimonies from key witness Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli, which have been under scrutiny since January.
