KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has advised consumers facing issues with airline services to file complaints directly with the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom). This comes after a global IT outage, caused by a faulty CrowdStrike security update, affected airports worldwide and disrupted numerous flights. Loke emphasized the need for airlines to prioritize passenger safety despite delays, stating, “Passenger safety is a priority, and we cannot compromise. If an incident occurs, who will be responsible? It is better to be criticised than to compromise safety.”
Loke also acknowledged that while the recent disruptions were unavoidable due to the widespread IT system failure, there is room for improvement in airport procedures and communication systems to handle such incidents better in the future. “Airports had to check in manually, which takes time. When one flight is delayed, it impacts many flights. I believe this can be improved in terms of procedures and communication systems,” he said. The global tech outage impacted nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices and caused thousands of flight cancellations, leaving passengers stranded or facing lengthy delays.
