NEW YORK, August 10 — Renowned photographer Pete Souza has deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing backlash for comments on a photo of former President Donald Trump. Souza, who served as the chief official White House photographer for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, questioned the authenticity of Trump’s ear injury from a July 13th assassination attempt in a post sharing an Associated Press image of Trump boarding a plane without a bandage.
The post, which led to a flood of critical and hateful responses directed at both Souza and the original photographer Doug Mills, prompted Souza to deactivate his account. In an Instagram update, Souza clarified that the decision to delete his X account was made in response to the intense negativity and was a personal choice, though he is uncertain if it will be permanent.
