KUALA LUMPUR, August 3 — Johor Baru is set to revolutionize urban safety and traffic management as part of the Greater Johor Baru plan, with the installation of advanced AI-driven closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and smart traffic lights. The initiative, which aims to transform the city into a more liveable and smart environment by 2030, will see 1,800 AI cameras deployed across the region. Jafni Shukor, Johor’s housing and local government committee chairman, announced that the AI cameras, being installed in stages until 2027, will aid police investigations and enhance public safety.
These cameras will be supported by smart intelligence operation centers for real-time data monitoring. Additionally, the city will upgrade its traffic light system, including 33 newly installed smart lights with emergency buttons and a dedicated app for reporting malfunctions. Johor Baru Mayor Mohd Noorazam Osman emphasized that the AI cameras, which include 380 units within Johor Baru City Council’s jurisdiction, will significantly improve traffic management and emergency response times, bolstering both public safety and investor confidence.
