PUTRAJAYA, August 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today addressed the nation’s economic outlook, emphasizing the positive impact of recent financial reforms, despite their unpopularity. Speaking at the Minister of Finance’s monthly assembly, Anwar acknowledged that targeted subsidy cuts and revised electricity tariffs are tough measures, but essential for addressing financial leakages and boosting the economy.
Anwar highlighted the strengthening ringgit as a key indicator of economic recovery and investor confidence. The Malaysian currency has continued to show strength, trading at between 4.42 and 4.43 against the US dollar, marking its best performance in 14 years. Anwar expressed pride in this achievement, noting it as a testament to the government’s successful reform efforts and commitment to stabilizing the country’s financial health.
