KUALA LUMPUR, August 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for Malaysia to fully harness the potential of its rare earth element (REE) industry while addressing concerns about resource exploitation. In a statement following the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) Meeting No. 6 of 2024, Anwar stressed the importance of collaborating with international experts to build a comprehensive REE industry chain within the country.

Anwar highlighted the need for stringent enforcement to prevent exploitation, which could diminish government revenues and hinder industry growth. He also mentioned the review of the ‘New Deal for Business’ initiative to boost Malaysia’s attractiveness as a business destination. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that these measures would enhance investor confidence and fortify Malaysia’s economic foundation.
