KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 — PETRONAS has reported significant achievements in its exploration and appraisal activities for the first half of 2024, marking key milestones both domestically and internationally. In Malaysia, the Bekok Deep-1 exploration well, discovered in May, has shown promising results with a strong hydrocarbon flow rate, underscoring a major breakthrough in Peninsular Malaysia’s energy sector. This discovery represents one of the most notable advancements in the region in the past decade.

Internationally, PETRONAS made a substantial find with the Sloanea-2 appraisal well in Block 52, Suriname, drilled in June. This success enhances PETRONAS’ prospects in the basin and paves the way for potential development of a Floating Liquified Natural Gas (FLNG) project. PETRONAS is evaluating an integrated development strategy for gas and oil extraction in Block 52, reflecting its commitment to strategic, innovative exploration and sustainable resource management.
