KUALA LUMPUR, August 17 — PETRONAS, through its subsidiary PETRONAS CCS Solutions Sdn Bhd (PCCSS), has announced the commencement of a five-month study to evaluate the onshore terminal, jetty, and pipeline for its Northern Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Hub in Terengganu. This study will precede the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, which is pivotal for the hub’s development. The Northern CCS Hub is one of three planned by PETRONAS to significantly reduce carbon emissions across the Asia Pacific region.

Targeting an initial capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), the hub is expected to start its CO2 injection operations by 2029. PCCSS Chief Executive Officer, Nora’in Md Salleh, highlighted that the study will focus on assessing infrastructure suitability and optimizing onshore solutions, with potential sites like Kertih Port Sdn Bhd’s land being evaluated. This initiative underscores PETRONAS’ commitment to its Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE) goal by 2050 and enhances its role in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
