KUALA LUMPUR, August 27 — ZALORA, Asia’s leading fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform, has launched its “Snap and Drop” clothes recycling initiative in Malaysia, offering RM20 cashback for each donation of pre-loved apparel. In collaboration with Life Line Clothing, a local zero-waste textile collector, ZALORA aims to repurpose donated items, giving them a new life through upcycling into household items like rugs and tote bags or reselling them if in good condition.
This initiative is part of ZALORA’s broader sustainability efforts to promote a circular fashion economy and reduce textile waste. Donors can participate by dropping their used clothes, shoes, and bags at nearly 1,000 textile recycling bins across Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Johor, and Melaka. To encourage participation, ZALORA provides a simple process where donors snap a picture of their donation at the collection point, fill out an online form, and receive RM20 cashback on their next ZALORA purchase.
Arvind Devadasan, ZALORA’s Head of Sustainability, expressed excitement about the initiative, highlighting its potential to foster a more sustainable fashion ecosystem. The program, which has already been introduced in Singapore, aims to raise awareness and change consumer behaviors around textile waste, with plans to expand to other Southeast Asian markets in the near future.
