BANGI, September 3 – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, chief panel adviser of the State Government 4 (SG4), has announced the formation of SG4 Group Sdn Bhd, a joint venture in which the four Perikatan Nasional (PN)-led states—Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis—will each hold a 25 per cent stake. This initiative aims to ensure fair economic distribution among these states, which have historically been economically disadvantaged.
Speaking at the SG4 Summit, Dr Mahathir emphasized that the primary goal of this joint venture is to advance the underdeveloped states and attract foreign investment. He addressed concerns that SG4 might diverge from the federal government’s objectives, reiterating that the focus remains on equitable wealth distribution and leveraging successful models from other countries.
The company will concentrate on five key sectors: economy and industry, green technology, infrastructure and logistics, trade and investment, and agriculture and food security, along with education and human capital. Each state will appoint its own board of directors to oversee the company’s operations, with Dr Mahathir noting that investments are already beginning to flow, signaling positive momentum for the initiative.
