KUALA LUMPUR, September 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim pledged continued government support to ensure the success of Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, as it battles ongoing challenges stemming from supply and manpower shortages. Speaking at Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s 30th anniversary, Anwar emphasized the importance of the national carrier’s revival, noting that its struggles are partly due to past political decisions favoring cronies.
Anwar highlighted that the government remains dedicated to assisting MAG, which has shown signs of recovery after a decade of difficulties. While he did not specify whether further financial aid would be provided, he assured that all reasonable measures would be taken to bolster the airline’s performance. Malaysia Airlines reported a net profit in 2023 for the first time in over a decade, but recent safety concerns threaten to derail this progress.
