KUALA LUMPUR, September 9 – DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke has defended Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s right to voice her concerns regarding halal certification, calling for calm discussions rather than politicization of the issue. Loke emphasized that Kok’s comments reflect the concerns of the non-Muslim community, particularly small businesses that may face operational challenges if halal certification becomes mandatory.
Loke added that the proposal from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is still in its early stages and requires thorough discussion at the Cabinet level before any decisions are made. He urged that the matter be handled responsibly to prevent it from becoming a source of unnecessary controversy.
