KLUANG, September 12 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) has announced former Johor FA footballer Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, as its candidate for the upcoming Mahkota state by-election on September 28. The announcement was made by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin at a ceremony in Kampung Melayu last night. Mohamad Haizan, a native of Kluang’s Layang-Layang area, is the son of a former Kluang District Health Office employee.
The by-election, which was triggered by the passing of incumbent Sharifah Azizah on August 2, will see Mohamad Haizan competing against Barisan Nasional’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, who was announced as BN’s candidate last Saturday. Nomination day is set for September 14, with early voting scheduled for September 24.
