KUALA LUMPUR, September 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized today that the halal industry has evolved beyond just abstaining from pork and alcohol, positioning itself as a more inclusive economic model than Western capitalism. Speaking at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) 2024, Anwar highlighted that the halal sector now supports small-scale traders, farmers, and SMEs, offering economic benefits to even the poorest segments of society.

Anwar also praised Islamic finance as a key achievement of the halal industry, contributing to its estimated US$3 trillion export market. He noted that Malaysia, a global leader in halal certification, aims to raise its halal exports to RM65 billion by 2024, further supporting the country’s vision for an inclusive and sustainable economy.
