KUALA LUMPUR, September 24 – The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad have successfully hosted the inaugural Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) workshop, aimed at helping Malaysian businesses navigate the EU’s upcoming carbon border policy. The event, attended by industry leaders and environmental experts from Riverstone Environmental Sdn. Bhd., focused on how CBAM will impact Malaysia’s export sector, particularly for carbon-intensive products like cement, iron, steel, and aluminum.
Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, MITI’s Deputy Secretary General, emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to low-carbon initiatives, while MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim urged exporters to prepare for the new regulations. The workshop covered CBAM’s implementation timeline, compliance strategies, and available government incentives to support businesses through the transition. Alliance Bank also highlighted green financing options to assist companies in adopting more sustainable practices.
