KUALA LUMPUR, September 21 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged Malaysia’s halal industry to be cautious in sharing knowledge and strategies with other countries to maintain its position as a global leader in halal product certification and production. Speaking at the 2024 Halal Ecosystem Transformation Workshop, Zahid stressed that over-sharing could allow competitors to replicate Malaysia’s approach, undermining its leadership since 1974.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination between government agencies and industry players to maintain Malaysia’s dominance in the halal sector, which is projected to reach a global value of US$5 trillion by 2030. Zahid also called for the establishment of a halal research and innovation centre to further enhance Malaysia’s expertise and leadership in the industry.
