GEORGE TOWN, September 25 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has provided RM500 in cash aid to 202 families in Penang affected by last week’s devastating floods. In addition, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will extend RM1,000 to each household to further support their recovery efforts, according to Anwar’s senior political secretary, Shamsul Iskandar Akin.
The aid was distributed at Dewan Besar Sungai Dua, where Shamsul noted that the funds aim to alleviate the burden of rebuilding after the flood damage. Many recipients expressed their gratitude, with one planning to use the money to replace damaged furniture. The flash floods, which impacted four districts, saw 623 people evacuated, with the last temporary relief centres closing on 21 September as families returned home.
