GEORGE TOWN, October 13 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that the 2025 Budget will focus on expanding internet access to schools, universities, and remote areas. Through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the ministry aims to provide high-speed internet to educational institutions, particularly in rural regions and islands, to close the digital gap.

Fahmi highlighted the shortcomings of the previous Point of Presence (PoP) program, which only delivered internet up to school gates. He emphasized the need to equip 4,000 schools with proper internet access, addressing concerns raised by the Auditor General’s Report. The ministry will also collaborate with the Higher Education Ministry to resolve internet connectivity issues at public universities, as urged by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The 2025 Budget will be tabled on October 18.
