KUALA LUMPUR, October 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia will maintain its independent stance on global issues, even after joining the Brics group, which includes superpowers Russia and China. In a candid interview with US-based broadcaster Mehdi Hasan, Anwar stressed that Malaysia will voice its views boldly and without fear, including criticisms of Brics members if necessary, citing the country’s condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Anwar reiterated that Malaysia will not choose sides amid rising tensions between the United States and China, while maintaining important diplomatic and trade relations with both. He emphasized that Malaysia’s priority remains working closely with Asean countries, with a foreign policy focused on regional cooperation and national interests.
