KUALA LUMPUR, October 15 – Enlit Asia 2024, the leading energy conference for the ASEAN region, has officially commenced at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). Themed “Enabling a Multidimensional Energy Transition in ASEAN,” this year’s event aims to accelerate conversations and collaborations surrounding sustainable energy solutions, inspired by Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). Bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators, the three-day conference is set to explore the critical challenges and opportunities within the region’s energy landscape.
In his opening address, YB Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), emphasized Malaysia’s dedication to a sustainable energy future. He highlighted the importance of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) as a key enabler for regional collaboration and renewable energy integration. Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, President and CEO of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), echoed this sentiment, pointing out the need to harmonize regulatory frameworks to unlock the full potential of the APG, which aims to democratize energy generation and distribution across member states.
As discussions unfold, attendees are focused on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with panels exploring themes from renewable energy integration to enhancing grid resilience. Simon Hoare, Enlit Asia’s Portfolio Director of Energy, expressed optimism about the conference’s impact, stating, “The first day has ignited engaging discussions among industry leaders, advancing our mission to break down silos and foster greater collaboration across borders.” With a diverse lineup of speakers and sessions planned for the upcoming days, Enlit Asia 2024 is poised to be a pivotal event in shaping the future of energy in the ASEAN region.
