KUALA TERENGGANU, October 10 — The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, which aims to connect the Klang Valley to the East Coast, has achieved a significant milestone with 72.93% completion as of September. Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the progress is on track for the anticipated December 2026 completion date for the rail line stretching from Kota Bharu to the Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal.
Notably, Terengganu is leading the way with an impressive completion rate of 87.4%, surpassing Selangor, Kelantan, and Pahang in this major infrastructure initiative. Addressing concerns regarding potential delays due to the upcoming monsoon season, Loke assured that careful planning has been undertaken by Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) to mitigate weather-related disruptions. Elevated structures and flyovers have been constructed in flood-prone areas to ensure continuous progress.
Furthermore, the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MRL and Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Berhad (EPIC Berhad) is expected to enhance cargo transportation efficiency by integrating the ECRL network with the Kemaman Port, bolstering logistics capabilities across Peninsular Malaysia.
