PETALING JAYA, October 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged concerns today about over-taxing the wealthy, stating that excessive taxes could discourage domestic investment. Speaking at the 78th AGM of the Association of Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCCIM), Anwar reassured the public that any tax policies, including a possible inheritance tax, would be carefully considered to avoid negative impacts on investments.

“I agree that taxing the rich too high could deter domestic investment,” Anwar said, responding to growing unease over the rumoured reintroduction of an inheritance tax. He emphasized that no concerning tax measures would be imposed, ensuring that the government remains attentive to feedback from stakeholders.
