KUALA LUMPUR, October 22 – Pentas Seni Merdeka returned to the iconic Dataran Merdeka, bringing a vibrant celebration of history, culture, and tradition as part of the Kreatif KL Festival. The event, now in its third year, strengthens Kuala Lumpur’s position as a growing creative destination, showcasing traditional performances by local and regional Adigurus (Master Artists). This year’s highlight was the captivating Ronggeng Melayu performance, presented by Nusantara Performing Arts Research Centre (NusPARC) and Nyala Dance Theatre, alongside DBKL Cultural Combo and special guests like singer Syura and DJ Sonic Hussein.
Aligned with the Kuala Lumpur Creative and Cultural District (KLCCD) Master Plan and the Madani Economic Framework, Pentas Seni Merdeka aims to transform public spaces and foster a deeper connection between the community and cultural heritage. YB Khairul Firdaus bin Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, emphasized the importance of the programme in preserving Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, while Dato’ Seri TPr (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, highlighted the city’s potential to become a UNESCO Creative City.
