KUALA LUMPUR, October 24 – World Standards Day, themed “Shared Vision for a Better World,” is celebrated globally by standardization bodies, including the Department of Standards Malaysia (JSM). This initiative is part of an international effort by organizations like the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The day serves to recognize the contributions of experts involved in developing global standards.
To commemorate World Standards Day 2024, JSM organized a Draft Malaysian Standard (MS) Consultation Session focusing on Malaysian Batik in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The session aimed to explain the need for revisions in the draft MS 692 Batik Malaysia – Specifications (Third Revision) and gather feedback from participants, including government bodies, academics, and industry representatives.
The updated MS 692 is expected to serve as a comprehensive guideline for the batik industry, enhancing product quality and compliance with standards. This initiative is crucial for strengthening the Malaysian batik industry, which holds significant cultural and economic value, while also expanding market opportunities domestically and internationally.
