KUALA LUMPUR, October 17 — Nooryana Najwa Najib, the daughter of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has been appointed as a director of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). The announcement was made by Matrade chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican on Facebook, where he welcomed the 36-year-old Umno Puteri executive committee member to the board.
During a recent meeting, Reezal presented Nooryana with her appointment letter and witnessed her taking an oath of commitment to anti-corruption alongside two other board members. While Reezal did not elaborate on the reasoning behind her appointment, it comes amid a turbulent time for her family. Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption related to the SRC International case, part of the broader 1MDB scandal.
Meanwhile, Nooryana’s mother, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, is appealing her own conviction and significant fine linked to a bribery case involving a solar power project. The Court of Appeal is set to hear her appeal on October 23 and 24.
