PETALING JAYA, October 18 — Former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming has expressed disappointment over the current state of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), saying the party’s leadership today differs from when he joined 12 years ago. Ong criticized DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng for publicly questioning the allocation of government funds for a trunk road spanning two constituencies, one of which is held by the opposition.
He noted that the DAP he joined in 2012 would have fought for equal funding for all constituencies, regardless of political affiliation. Ong’s comments come after Lim accused RM1.4 million of the RM5.6 million in funds designated for his Bagan constituency of being diverted to Tasek Gelugor, a claim that Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan refuted.
State executive councillor Zairil Khir Johari clarified that the funds were for a shared infrastructure project, with the remaining balance returned to Bagan. Ong also criticized other DAP assemblymen for publicly attacking Zairil, lamenting the internal conflicts that he believes have strayed from the party’s original values.
