GEORGE TOWN, October 18 — Emergency repairs are underway on a massive 10-meter sinkhole in Taman Sri Nibong, Bayan Lepas, following the discovery of a leaking sewage pipe. State infrastructure exco Zairil Khir Johari confirmed that Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) began repairs last night after using a camera to inspect the damaged pipes, which were causing soil erosion and water spillage. The pipe repairs are expected to take seven days.

Zairil also said IWK is monitoring the condition of sewage pipes in the surrounding area and has begun replacing older pipes as part of the repair efforts. The sinkhole, which is three meters deep, was reported yesterday morning, leading the Public Works Department (JKR) to implement a traffic management plan and close the affected road. Pantai Jerejak state assemblyman Fahmi Zainol announced that the road through Krystal Point will remain closed for a week during the repairs.
