KUALA LUMPUR, October 18 – The Malaysian government has allocated RM750 million in the 2025 federal budget to address flood mitigation and preparedness efforts nationwide. This allocation is part of the RM421 billion budget, the largest in the country’s history, representing a RM27.2 billion increase from 2024’s budget of RM393.8 billion. It marks a significant step towards enhancing Malaysia’s resilience against natural disasters.

The RM421 billion budget will allocate RM335 billion for operational expenditure and RM86 billion for development, with a strong focus on addressing the impacts of climate change, particularly flood risks, which have increasingly affected various parts of the country. The flood mitigation funds are expected to cover infrastructure improvements, early warning systems, and disaster response capabilities.

This investment reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable communities and reducing the long-term economic impact of floods, ensuring that Malaysia is better prepared to face the challenges posed by extreme weather events.
