GEORGE TOWN, October 19 — A viral video showing a car being driven recklessly in George Town has led to the arrest of a 39-year-old local man. The incident, which took place on September 12, 2024, around 6:18 PM at Jalan Dato’ Keramat and Lebuh Chulia, caught the attention of the Timur Laut District Police.
The driver, hailing from Ayer Itam, is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. He is also facing charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code for allegedly smashing a vehicle’s window in a separate incident reported on October 17, 2024.
Police tests revealed that the driver was under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamine. With 12 previous records for criminal and narcotics-related offenses, he is currently in remand until October 20, 2024. Authorities have urged the public to drive responsibly to ensure the safety of all road users.
