KUANTAN, October 28 — The Ministry of Health (KKM) has issued 98,054 fines totaling RM24.5 million for smoking-related offences in prohibited areas over the past nine months, surpassing last year’s figures. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasized that this demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to enforcing smoking bans, dismissing claims that enforcement efforts have waned.

At the launch of the Clean Premises, Smoke-Free Walkabout Programme and the 2024 Mega Integrated Enforcement Operation, Dr Dzulkefly projected over 130,000 notices by the end of the year. The operation also focuses on curbing tobacco and e-cigarette use, especially among minors, in collaboration with other ministries and agencies.
