KUALA LUMPUR, October 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today clarified that appointments to government-linked companies (GLCs) are based on professionalism and qualifications, not political affiliations. He emphasized that candidates for key GLC positions undergo rigorous vetting by the Inland Revenue Board, Bank Negara, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure they have clean records.
Anwar highlighted that while individuals with political backgrounds can be considered, priority is given to their professional qualifications. However, he stressed that politicians are prohibited from serving on the boards of financial institutions, in line with Bank Negara’s principles to maintain integrity in financial oversight.
