KUALA LUMPUR, October 26 — Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris announced that the Guan Gong Cultural Association of Malaysia will be investigated over the display of China’s national flag at the recent Guan Gong festival in Teluk Intan. The incident, which went viral on social media, has raised legal concerns, with police initiating an investigation under Section 3 of the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act for unauthorized foreign flag display and the Peaceful Assembly Act for an unapproved moving procession. Organizers could face up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of RM1,000 if convicted.

The Guan Gong Cultural Association expressed regret over the incident, clarifying it was an unplanned act by participants and apologizing to Malaysians for any offense caused. Chairman Soon Boon Hua stated that the association had always prioritized displaying the Malaysian flag in previous years. Meanwhile, an aide confirmed that Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming was not present, refuting allegations that he was involved in the incident.
