KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — A study by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission shows that while most Malaysians first receive news through social media.
Trust remains higher in traditional media. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said 87 to 90 per cent of those aged 18 to 35 rely on platforms like WhatsApp, TikTok and Facebook for initial information.
But trust levels there are only around 40 to 50 per cent. In contrast, television, radio and newspapers enjoy stronger credibility despite lower usage.
Fahmi described this as a paradox in today’s digital landscape, stressing that journalistic ethics remain vital in ensuring accurate reporting.
Especially amid rapid information sharing and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
