KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — Following the death of a father in Klang while buying books for his children, road safety advocate Shahrim Tamrin emphasized that Malaysia’s fight against drink driving requires systemic reform, not social media outrage.

Highlighting fragmented data sharing between hospitals, police, and the Ministry of Transport, he called for urgent measures including lowering the alcohol limit.

Immediate license suspension for offenders, and establishing a DUI Victim Compensation Fund to support bereaved families.

Tamrin urged authorities to adopt a 2026–2035 DUI Road Safety Plan, implement driver-monitoring technology, and fast-track DUI cases through specialized courts.

He stressed that Vision Zero—eliminating fatalities caused by impaired driving—must be the nation’s priority to prevent tragedies like the Klang incident.
