KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Participants for the March 27 rally may be shouting out loud but they do not represent the voice of the majority, said UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. He said the rally against the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be just another wasted call that would never succeed.

“There have been many rallies, many predictions especially last year with regard to people making the no-confidence vote, budget not being approved, world leaders not coming to Malaysia, UMNO assembly last year would be a mess but it didn’t happen. So, basically another rally has been planned. I think we just have to deal with it, at the end of the day it is the public that makes the difference not those people who are shouting aloud,” said the Defence Minister at a press conference at Parliament building.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were among those who had confirmed their attendance at the gathering proposed by former minister in the prime minister’s department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

“Meanwhile, the government would not stop the gathering slated for March 27 as long as it would not lead to any undesired incidents. If they can promise that they can do the demo well then there is no need for us to stop it but the problem now is at the end of the day we have to see if the rally itself has the potential to cause any problem especially in terms of traffic and injury,” Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad said.
