KUALA LUMPUR, December 19 — Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been granted a temporary release of his international passport to seek medical consultation for pancreatic cancer and visit family in the United Kingdom. Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi approved the request, allowing Muhyiddin to travel from today until January 14, 2025.

His lawyer, Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, explained that Muhyiddin plans to consult Prof Brian Davidson, a leading specialist in pancreatic cancer, at London’s Platinum Medical Centre on December 18. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Jumaat objected, arguing that Malaysia has adequate medical facilities and specialists. However, Judge Azura emphasized the importance of access to the best medical care, noting no evidence of intent to abscond.

The court set January 16, 2025, to decide on a prosecution request to jointly hear charges of abuse of power and receiving illegal proceeds against Muhyiddin. The 77-year-old politician faces multiple charges linked to the Jana Wibawa project, with alleged offences occurring during his tenure as prime minister between 2020 and 2021.
